<h1>Welcome to the web site of The Scottish International Piano Competition 2010</h1>
<p>Glasgow is delighted and proud, as a UNESCO City of Music, to have hosted SIPC since its inception in 1986. Our Competition attracts some of the world's most gifted young pianists and has evolved over the past two decades into being a wonderful Festival of music.</p>
<p>Glasgow is the home of Scotland's Conservatoire, the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, and we are proud to acknowledge the unstinting support and cooperation of the Principal and staff. Indeed, Music Education is a most important element of the Competition and we aim, through a series of workshops and recitals in schools, to introduce classical music to young children at an early stage in their learning process, and to encourage the aspirations of our young pianists, some of whom will have the wonderful experience of taking part in the Performance Workshops held during the Competition.</p>
<p>The Competition also offers the opportunity to attend Masterclasses given by members of our Competition Jury, all of whom are pianists of world renown. There will be specialist workshops to attend and the customary informative lecture on a most interesting aspect of piano music which this year will be given by David Owen Norris, Professor of Musical Performance at the University of Southampton, Visiting Professor of Fortepiano at the Royal College of Music and a well-known broadcaster.</p>
<p>Altogether we look forward to a most exciting musical feast over the 12 days of the Competition. Of course its success depends on the support and hard work of some very dedicated people. I would like to give a heartfelt thanks to all members of the Board of SIPC, particularly to the Music Committee, who have worked so hard to bring a feast of wonderful music to us.</p>
<p>The Scottish International Piano Competition is well established as one of the leading events in the international piano competition calendar. For twelve days in September 2010, the city of Glasgow will play host to some of the world's most gifted young pianists. These aspiring soloists will come from around the world to compete for prizes totalling over £60,000 and the recognition that will set them further along the road to a successful international career.</p>
<p>The City of Glasgow has hosted the prestigious Scottish International Piano Competition since its inception in 1986. This triennial Competition, a major festival of piano performance, continues to grow and the 2010 Competition will include the exciting new development of a Chamber Music component.</p>
<h1>Programme</h1>
<p>The formal opening of SIPC2010 will be held in the Glasgow City Chambers on Wednesday 8th September 2010 at a Reception hosted by the Lord Provost.</p>
<p>The official draw for the order of play for Stage 1 will take place during the Reception and will be available on this page, and in our website News column, on Thursday 9th September 2010.</p>
<p>After the completion of each stage, and once the decisions of the Jury have been reached and communicated to the competitors, the results will be made available on this page and on our News column.</p>
